The 4th was a lot more fun this year because Brennan was actually very interested in the candy. Last year he just watched all the commotion and tried to make sense of it. This float had a funny trick they were playing on the kids. They had a piece of candy connected to a fishing pole....you guessed it, Brennan got duped! His reaction was so funny. There were many chuckles all around us. This wheat thresher dumped loads of candy on the crowd. This is the biggest cow I have ever seen! lil cutie!
On our way back to Orem after the Gunnison parade, we had a little accident. A little past Yuba reservoir, a truck in front of us lost something from it's bed. It looked like plastic. It bounced like 10 feet in the air the first bounce and then smaller bounces in the middle of our lane. Well Chris pulled over to on coming traffic's lane and just as we would have past the object, it bounced from the lane that we WERE in to the lane that we had moved to. There was a loud thumped and I thought it sounded loud for a piece of plastic. I watched for it in the side rear mirror and never saw it. I figured it deflected and I missed it. A little later down the road, I asked Chris to stop so I could take a picture. Chris immediately checked the car and this is what we found. The hitch from the truck in front of us. You can see in the picture, if it had bounced an inch higher it would have come through the windshield. We were all in the car and any one of us could have been killed. This is the second accident during a summer holiday. We've decided to put the car in the garage for future holidays to avoid a crisis. :> I truly feel like the Lord protected our family that day. The hitch sits in the most perfect position possible. It also did the smallest amount of damage where it is positioned. We've have taken the hitch out since that day and each time I pick up this 5-10 pound metal chunk I am reminded of the importance of our pleas for protection on a daily basis to the Lord and the fact that I should never take the moments I am given with my family for granted.
